A carpenter bee (Xylocopa spp, Apidae) foraging on hydrangea flowers (Hydrangea, Hydrangeaceae). These bees are easily confused with the bumble bees, but the abdomen is shiny and hairless, whereas bumble bees have hair there. MSU Tollgate Center, Novi, MI.
